PAPER TOWER

Another pleasant experience from the PPD session.first our teacher Miss.Sarasi devided us in to 3 groups. She gave us 12 A4 sheets, pair of scissors,a sello-tape and challenge to built a big paper tower from given papers within 45 minutes.

The following would be checked,
        *longest tower
        *firmness tower
        *straightness of the tower

First of all we needed to imagine the structure of our tower. All of the members in our group presented their own ideas. We selected the best structure and started to build it all together. Then we rolled the papers like cones and pasted them one by one. When we were building the middle part of the tower , we faced a major problem. When tower's height is increasing, the straightness and strength went down. Even though we continued to build the tower it was not steady it can't stand without any support. So we had to find the way to solve this problem. When the time up somehow we managed to built the tower successfully.

At the end of this session Miss.Sarasi showed us our good things and faults. Specially she pointed out that our creativity is not at the best when comparing to other teams.

After this great activity we learned ,
  • making decision
  • how to respect other's opinions
  • leadership
  • importance of the plan
  • creativity

The paper tower session is important of develop our personal development skills and it was enjoyable and great activity.

WHAT IS PPD?

What is PPD? Do you have answer for this question? Well, actually this was the main question we had when we heard that we have PPD sessions for our higher studies. But day by day we learnt and now we know “What is PPD?”. Before going to a more descriptive explanation I can give you a brief idea about PPD. It’s not just a subject with the collection of advises and theories. It’s just a subject that have made with simple but very effective and enjoyable activities.

PPD stands for ‘Personal Progress Development’. PPD allows learners to develop their skills in areas such as communications, reading and writing, mathematics, independent living, skills for the workplace, engaging with the world around them and most importantly their decision making abilities with the best personality. In simple words PPD helps young people who are waiting for enter the professional level to be successful and unique with their own skills.

As I said in the above paragraph there is no exact instructions or descriptions to learners in PPD. PPD enables students to develop those things through team games, sports, arts and crafts such as dramas and etc. Paper tower, River crossing and Culture are some activities in PPD. Those activities gives you lot of fun as well as so much knowledge. Also PPD gives you a chance to think different and out of frame. And your creativity will be increased and your personality and other soft skills will sharpened.
